Membership

Membership Types & Fees - $200 Individual / $250 Family / $50 Social / $100 Student

-=-Grand Rapids Crew (high school) please join here -=-Collegiate team please join here -=-

Members have a wide variety of competitive and recreational opportunities, as well as several social opportunities throughout the year. Additionally, once you have been certified by a GRRA coach, you will have access to any of our wide assortment of club boats as often as you wish. There is no additional cost for equipment use or access.

Since the club has no paid staff, we are fortunate to receive help from the membership throughout the year, at events such as home regattas and social events, but also with the everyday needs of the organization. If you'd rather wait until just before we get on the water to join, that's certainly okay... however, what many people don't realize is that the club has expenses throughout the year and counts on memberships being renewed when they run out, even during the winter. So, please consider joining or renewing anytime during the year (all membership terms are one full year, anyway)!

Not ready to join yet? Non-members and social members can row up twice per calendar year as a guest of a member. We hope you decide to join us, though!

Individual Membership

Individual club members have rowing privileges, can hold a board position, have access to the boathouse and erg room, and have full access to the website and club communications. Additionally, individual members receive discounts on merchandise, workshops, classes, regatta fees, and rowing programs offered by the club (and discounts at some nearby restaurants!) This membership is $200/year. Memberships on a monthly basis are also available at $20/month.

Family Membership

Family memberships are available to up to 4 members of a family (more than 4 is subject to approval by the board). Family members enjoy all the benefits of individual membership! The primary member should join with this membership form, and additional members can be added later. Family memberships cost $250/year. Memberships on a monthly basis are also available at $25/month.

Social Membership

Social memberships are meant for those who aren't as interested in rowing with the club, but still wish to remain in touch with the club happenings and member events. Social memberships cost $50/year.

Student Membership

Student memberships are available for full-time college students or those who have recently (within one year) graduated from high school or college. Student memberships include rowing privileges, access to the boathouse and erg room, just like individual members. Membership does not include coaching, regatta fees, etc. Student members may be asked to provide proof of their eligibility, such as student ID, etc. This category is not intended for students taking part in the structured high school (Grand Rapids Crew) or collegiate rowing programs. Please go here to join the high school team, Grand Rapids Crew, and here to join the collegiate team. Thank you!

Crew Fee $100

While membership allows you access to club equipment (once you're certified by a GRRA coach) and rowing on your own time, participation in a formal adult rowing program such as our competitive crew or recreational program carries an extra cost to help cover expenses. Regatta fees and purchase of clothing and racing gear is not included. The crew fee is a flat $100/year per membership add-on, regardless of which programs in which you choose to participate. This fee includes indoor coaching at the YWCA during the winter.

Shell Storage - $150

Rack rental for storage of private shells is also available to Individual or Family members at an additional charge. Please contact a GRRA coach if you are interested in storing a private shell at the boathouse. Rack rental costs $150/year, subject to availability.

An important note about recurring payments:
This information applies to memberships and renewals from August 2011 on. Individual (monthly), family (monthly), and social memberships are set up to automatically bill you for a new membership when your renewal period comes back around. If you prefer not to have your membership automatically renew, you can select the "Stop Recurring Payments" option in your profile (accessed by logging in using the box at the upper right corner of this website). You can also select "Pay Manually" when registering, and simply send a check to the club's PO Box (3189, Grand Rapids MI 49501). Monthly memberships will only be approved if the online payment method is used.
