History

The history of the Grand Rapids Boat & Canoe Club dates to January 27, 1902.
Our present organization, the Grand Rapids Rowing Association, was founded in 1985.

We are located at 401 North Park, just north of the North Park Bridge and Riverside Park. GRRA currently uses the remnants of the original club.

Unfortunately, the once famous Boat and Canoe Club burned to the ground on December 24, 1964. The remaining basement functions as equipment storage as well as a club house. When inside, you can look up and still see the charred support beams from the 1964 fire. However, our lease arrangement with the present owners is drawing to a close, and we need to find more room for our expanding programs and membership growth.

GRRA consists of a general membership of 75 + individual and family memberships, and 100+ student memberships. We encourage individuals to investigate this unique water sport by enrolling in our instructional mentor program. For more information about the next program, please contact Carol Beernink.
