    Start Date: June 15, 2015
    End Date: August 21, 2015
Practice Days/Times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm

This is the GRRA’s high school program for summer 2015, accepting rowers from any middle/high school in the Grand Rapids area. Rowers should be entering 8th - 12th grade this coming fall.  Previous rowing experience is helpful but not necessary.

Athletes will largely use sculling shells (singles, doubles and quads) although sweep shells will be used periodically throughout the season.  Racing is not a focus of this program, but those wishing to compete at regattas may be able to do so with coach approval.  Regatta fees and associated expenses are not included in the program cost.

Practice days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at the Grand Rapids Boathouse.

Registrations will be accepted on an on-going basis throughout the summer. The fee for the program is $150.  Fees can be reduced to $75, with board approval, when the athlete can only attend half or less of scheduled practices.  Payment plans are available.

    Additional details on Junior page.

    • New to GR Crew and/or rowing?
    • Never attended a booster meeting before?
    • Don't know if you will have time later to commit to anything?
    • Nervous about signing up for one more thing?
    • Love Chips and Salsa?

None of these are problems. Joining us for a meeting is a great way to get an idea of what we are all about. We have ways that you can be involved from as little as attending a meeting when you can all the way to actively participating in functions and initiatives.

The purpose of the GR Crew Booster Club is to support the rowers and coaches in a variety of ways. The boosters are a vital part of the success of the program overall. We hope that you will join us.

Please RSVP to Richelle Nickens or Tracy Shea so that we know how big of a table to get at On the Border.

This program meets three times in one week, on Tuesday (6-8p), Thursday evening (6-8p) and Saturday morning (10-12) at the Grand Rapids boathouse.

This class is open only to GRRA members.

The course is designed for scullers who have either participated in a previous 200-level sculling class or have other substantial sculling experience. Participants will exclusively use racing shells (and comfortably so), will learn race strategies and advanced techniques with which to maximize their efficiency and power on the water. Participants will have opportunities for informal racing, but the intensity of all sessions will be based on the ability and desire of the participants.

Members: This course is designed to prepare you for the green-level certification exam, which will allow you to take any racing or non-coxed shell from the boathouse, with other green certified rowers, or by yourself.

The content of all 400-level courses is the same.

What to bring: Rowing is a good workout. Wear workout clothes. Wear tight-fitting shorts (spandex if you dare), as loose-fitting clothes will get caught in the rowing shell's mechanisms. Wear socks that you are not afraid to get dirty - really dirty - and shoes that you can easily slip off.

Bring some bug spray and sunglasses, and a full water bottle to every practice.

Rowing is a water sport. We could row in the rain, so a towel and change of clothes in your car would also be a good idea.

Attendance is limited to just 4 participants so sign up now! 2 students are required to run the class. Member rates become available on April 6.

IMPORTANT: All participants that have not previously taken a 2015 GRRA class or are not a club member will need to read, print, and bring this (signed) waiver to the first session! We must have a signed waiver from you in order to place you in a boat!

(Waiver requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. Download the free Reader software here.)

Back by popular demand, Health Motion Physical Therapy Services will give a special presentation to the club geared toward rowing biomechanics.

The instructor will address how the body can optimally function in the rowing context, common rowing injuries, and how pain limits a rower's endurance, strength, and performance.

There is no charge to attend, and the clinic is open to all. It would be helpful if we know how many people to expect... please RSVP by registering here. Thank you!

This program meets three times for approximately one week: Tuesday evening (6-8 pm) Thursday evening (6-8 pm), and Saturday morning (10-12 am) at the Grand Rapids boathouse.

The class is designed for beginners as well as advanced adults who have either participated in a previous session or have rowing experience. Beginners will be taught sculling in recreational single shells. Participants will have opportunities for informal racing, but the intensity of all sessions will be based on the ability and desire of the participants.

Members: This course is designed to prepare you for the blue-level certification exam, which will allow you to take any coxed or recreational-level shell from the boathouse, with other certified rowers or by yourself.

The content of all 300-level sessions is the same; intermediate (400 level) classes are also available. (There are no 100-level sculling classes, since all participants must have already completed a 100-level Learn to Row class or have other substantial sweep experience prior to taking this course.)

Learn to Row Day gives you a chance to tour the boathouse, learn rowing on the ergometer or “erg”, an indoor rowing machine, and get out into a rowing shell on the Grand River, weather permitting. It’s a great way to try rowing and see if it’s right for you. New rowing classes are starting soon.

The event is open house style, so you can stop by anytime from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Learn to Row Day takes approximately one hour. It’s open to children and adults, ages 12 and up. It’s free!

Learn to Row Day will take place at the Grand Rapids Boathouse.

Schedule: Mondays and Wednesday, 6-8 pm
    Start Date: September 14, 2015
    End Date: October 21, 2015

This program meets twice weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 - 8 pm at the Grand Rapids boathouse. Additionally, there will be a final mini-regatta and cookout (at which family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend!) at 6 pm on Friday, October 23 at the boathouse. Please mark that date on your calendar.

This class is designed for first time beginners as well as advanced adults who have either participated in a previous session or have rowing experience. Beginners will be taught the basics of the rowing stroke, how to handle the equipment and will spend much of the time on the water having fun with their classmates and enjoying the sport.

Based on feedback from previous years' students, we have extended the class from four to six weeks, and are also departing slightly from the format of previous years classe. This class has much less emphasis on speed and competition, and rather will focus more on student enjoyment, technique, and working well with your crewmates.

The content of all 100-level sessions is the same; intermediate (200 level) for sweep rowing and sculling (300 level) classes are also available.

We recommend bringing bug spray, sunglasses, and a full water bottle to every practice.

Rowing is a water sport. We could row in the rain, so a towel and change of clothes in your car is also a good idea.

Please note: As all classes take place outdoors, we have periodically been forced to cancel individual class periods due to flooding or bad weather. We guarantee that we will hold at least 10 of 12 scheduled class periods - and typically are able to "make up" lost classes, as well.

Attendance is limited so sign up now! At least 8 students are required in order to run the class, and we can only accept up to 24 students. Additionally, if flooding or other unforeseen conditions force us to cancel the class altogether, your registration fee can be refunded in full or transferred to a future class.

IMPORTANT: All non-member participants will need to read, print, and bring this (signed) waiver to the first session! We must have a signed waiver from you in order to place you in a boat!
