Can you believe it? 101! Although rowing on the Grand River was first recorded as early as 1896, the first Grand Rapids boathouse opened on May 27, 1910, celebrated with a gala event attended by the famed Western Oarsmen of Grand Rapids, as well as the town's high society patrons and Mayor George Ellis, and the renowned Tuller's Orchestra even performed at the evening's ceremonies. In 2011, we're marking this momentous occasion with a morning row at the boathouse with current Mayor George Heartwell, and by the club hosting the
Michigan Scholastic Rowing Championship Regatta Saturday at Riverside Park.

The first Yule Run, I'll Walk event took place tonight at the boathouse. What fun! Over 700 people filled the boathouse grounds for this unique evening 5k run/walk event, which took participants along the White Pine Trail and through the Nite Lites display. We had a great time hosting this event with the West Michigan Sports Commission folks, and look forward to doing it again next year!

Holy cow! A regatta with about 18 entries last year (and ~50 people) exploded... into a much bigger regatta with over 160 entries and over 500 competitors! It was a great day of racing and we think most of the competitors on the 14 teams represented really enjoyed themselves.
